Human Resource Management (HRM) is a comprehensive process that includes: recruitment/selection, employee onboarding, orientation, communication, training, performance evaluation, compensation and benefits decisions, employee motivation, maintaining proper employee relations and their responsibilities, ensuring safety, welfare, and compliance with labor laws and decisions from competent authorities or courts.

2. Objectives of Human Resource Management

  • Social Objectives: Human resource management is socially responsible for addressing the needs and challenges of society while minimizing the negative impacts these demands may have on the organization. Failing to leverage resources for social benefit can lead to limitations.
  • Organizational Objectives: HRM plays a crucial role in the survival and growth of the organization. It is not limited to managing people; it is a means to support the organization in achieving its goals and objectives. In simple terms, it is a department that exists to serve the rest of the organization.
  • Functional Objectives: Effective HRM contributes to the developmental needs of the organization. Resources are wasted when HR management lacks the experience necessary to meet the organization’s needs. The level of service provided by the HR department must be aligned with the organization it serves.
  • Individual Objectives: HRM supports individuals in achieving their personal goals, provided these goals enhance their contribution to the organization. Otherwise, employee performance and satisfaction may decline, leading to turnover.

3. Role of Human Resource Management

Behind the production of every product or service is the mind, effort, and labor of individuals. No product or service can be created without human assistance. People are the fundamental resource for manufacturing or building anything. Every organization seeks skilled and capable individuals to make their organization competent and successful.

Today, many experts argue that machinery and technology are replacing the workforce and reducing their role or effort. However, machines and technology are created by humans and must be operated or at least supervised by people. This is why companies are always on the lookout for talented, skilled, and qualified professionals to ensure the continuous development of the organization.
